Advanced Veterinary Care

It is not uncommon to diagnose heart problems in both dogs and cats. If your pet is suspected of a heart condition or has one that requires further diagnostics, Rockland can provide your pet access to advanced board-certified cardiology services here in the familiar confines of our quiet office. Results of any cardiology services are usually available same-day. Cardiology services through Rockland saves our clients money, time, and undue stress on pets.

Tonometry and Measuring Eye Pressure

Like humans, both dogs and cats can experience glaucoma, a condition caused by increased pressure inside the eyeball. Left untreated, glaucoma often leads to blindness. All Rockland veterinary hospitals are equipped with an instrument called a tonopen, a device that painlessly measures the pressure inside the eye and accurately diagnoses glaucoma. Tonometry at Rockland is readily accessible to any patient at any routine visit.

All Rockland veterinary practices are equipped with an advanced ultrasound. Ultrasound is an excellent diagnostic tool for imaging soft tissue inside your pet and can be used to detect cancers, organ dysfunction, digestive system concerns, and glandular problems. Depending on your pet’s condition, ultrasound may be accessible during a routine appointment.  In other cases, we can schedule your pet’s ultrasound appointment. Ultrasound is painless and stress free for your pet because it performed in the quiet setting of our family-styled offices.  In all cases, results can be evaluated by a board certified veterinarian.

Radiology or X-ray

All Rockland locations have digital x-ray, otherwise known as digital radiography. Digital radiography is the most advanced way to look inside your pet. Often used to view bones and joints, digital radiography is also sensitive enough to image soft organ tissue like the intestines, stomach, esophagus, lungs, heart, major arteries and veins, and liver, kidneys, and bladder. Like all the advanced veterinary services, Rockland can have your pet’s radiographs viewed and diagnosed by a board certified veterinarian.

Dermatology or Skin Issues

We understand how exasperating it is to be the parent of a pet experiencing skin issues. In some cases, itchiness or hair loss can be attributed to a specific problem and treated straightforwardly, but in many cases, skin problems can be associated with allergies or other issues and can take longer to diagnose and treat. Rockland veterinarians have more than 100 years of combined experience treating skin problems in cats, dogs, pocket pets, ferrets, parrots and rabbits. Rockland has all the necessary equipment on hand to explore your pet’s skin condition and to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment for it.

Endocrine System Problems or Thyroid, Pancreas, Pituitary and Adrenal Gland Conditions

Organs that deliver hormones directly into the blood stream are called endocrine glands. They include the pancreas, and adrenal, thyroid and pituitary glands. The most common diseases associated with the disorders of these glands include diabetes, thyroid disease, and Cushing’s disease. Rockland is very experienced with diagnosing and managing all of these conditions in both dogs and cats. For more information on each of these problems, visit the handout section of our website under ‘resources’.
